Counseling & Psychiatric Care

A Suite of Convenient Mental Health Support Services Available Now in Big Bear Valley

Whether you are experiencing a mental health crisis, need help with a mental health diagnosis or simply need someone to talk to, the suite of mental health support services available through Bear Valley Community Healthcare District has you covered.

The hospital’s current team includes a doctor of psychiatry (a doctor who can prescribe psychiatric medicine), as well as a team of licensed counselors and social workers available for talk therapy and other services.

Psychiatry

Patients often choose to visit a psychiatrist in the following situations:

  • Diagnosis & Prescription Medication: Psychiatrists are trained to diagnose specific mental health conditions and to prescribe the proper medications to treat them, if needed.
  • Complex Conditions: Psychiatrists are especially helpful in treating more complex mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, PTSD, severe depressive / panic / anxiety disorders and schizophrenia.
  • Integrated Care: Psychiatrists do not always provide “talk therapy” but may instead work in tandem with a patient’s therapist to ensure they are receiving the full spectrum of care they need.

Counseling & Social Work

If you’re experiencing temporary feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness, or if you need help working through past trauma, it can be helpful to talk to a licensed mental health professional.

At BVCHD, you’ll find both therapists and licensed clinical social workers ready to help you work through your emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
