The Bear Valley Community Health Care District (BVCHD) is now an official Stroke Receiving Center designated by the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA).

In the United States, more than 795,000 people have a stroke each year. Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke. Every 3 minutes and 11 seconds, someone dies of stroke in this country.

To achieve this Stroke Receiving designation, the district needed to meet several rigorous requirements and adhere to a continuous quality improvement program (CQI) as well as data collection, physician initiatives and timed performance standards.

“Our staff have worked hard for more than two years to achieve this designation so that we can treat stroke cases here at our hospital, which will save time and lives,” said Evan Rayner, BVCHD Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud of our teams, and this is a big step forward in our goal of being stroke accredited.”

The Stroke receiving designation is just one more accomplishment in the comprehensive effort to ensure that Big Bear Valley residents can stay on the mountain to receive the life-saving quality care they deserve.

“Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) congratulates Bear Valley Community Healthcare District on becoming an Acute Stroke Receiving Center. This achievement brings a higher standard of care to the residents and visitors of Big Bear. The team at Bear Valley worked diligently to make this designation successful as well as making a commitment to continue to improve standards. ICEMA is proud to work alongside of the Bear Valley team and is looking forward to seeing more of your exceptional work in the future. “
