The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District (BVCHD) has introduced Tele-Endocrinology to add to its growing list of services geared toward keeping residents on the mountain for their healthcare needs.
Safa Hammami, MD is currently accepting patients and visits with patients via state-of-the-art telemedicine equipment at Bear Valley Community Healthcare District. Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the endocrine system. Endocrinologists diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions affecting the endocrine system, including diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, growth hormone deficiency, infertility, cholesterol problems, hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity and more.
Hammami is board certified in Endocrinology, internal medicine, obesity medicine, completed her fellowship at the Oregon Health and Science University and completed her residency and internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco.
It’s part of the ongoing mission to bring services to the community as opposed to the community having to drive off the mountain for services, according to BVCHD Chief Executive Officer Evan Rayner. “We’re continuing to invest in new providers, equipment and services because we know how important it is to have quality healthcare close to home,” he said.
Hammami’s expertise lies in the management of Diabetes Mellitus using advanced technologies and medication-assisted weight loss. She addresses a wide spectrum of hormonal imbalances including thyroid disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, adrenal disorders, pituitary issues, calcium/phosphorus imbalances, and osteoporosis. “My focus centers on personalized and holistic approaches to optimize overall endocrine health,” she said.
In the last year alone, BVCHD has added general and on-call surgery, cardiology, cataract surgery capabilities, a new licensed clinical social worker, dermatology and will soon be offering wound care and emergency inpatient dialysis.
