When Should I See a Cardiologist?

If you’re experiencing issues like chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and/or heart palpitations, your primary care physician may refer you to a member of our cardiology team. You may also wish to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist if you experience issues like angina, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, blood clots, or congenital heart defects and conditions.

JOHN ZAMARRA, MD

Dr. Zamarra joined the BVCHD team in 2023. He earned his medical degree from the University at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Following, he completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University at Buffalo.

Dr. Zamarra is board certified in both cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.

In his spare time, Dr. Zamarra has a special interest in meditation, specifically transcendental meditation. He has even published a research article on the effects of transcendental meditation on coronary heart disease in the Journal of American College of Cardiology.

DANIEL CURTIS, PA

Mr. Curtis joined the BVCHD team as a physician assistant in early 2025. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in human development from California State University, San Marcos, and his Master’s of Medical Science Degree (Physician Assistant) from Marshall Ketchum University.

Mr. Curtis was born and raised in Duarte, California, and served on the Naval ship U.S.S. Peleliu in San Diego. His hobbies include snowboarding, mountain biking and dirt biking.

Fun fact: Long before joining the medical field, Mr. Curtis was a childhood commercial actor.
