The Auxiliary

About The BVCH Auxiliary

The BVCH Auxiliary is a non-profit organization established in 1966 by Brenda Boss. At that time, its purpose was to secure funding to build a hospital in Big Bear. Today the Auxiliary provides thousands of hours of volunteer service in the hospital.

Hospital Auxiliary Purpose

The Auxiliary’s purpose is to serve the patients, residents, and visitors to Bear Valley Community Hospital through direct services and provision of support services to enhance patient care and comfort and to strengthen the hospital’s public relations. We also grant scholarships to graduating high school students entering the medical field.

Active Auxiliary Members Role

  1. Manage and staff the front lobby information desk, keeping order, providing information, and giving directions to visitors.
  2. Manage and staff the emergency waiting room during the winter months and busy weekends, assisting administration clerks.
  3. Assist in the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) with games, crafts, candlelight dinners, outings, and holiday celebrations. Some members visit and read to the residents.
  4. Plan fundraising events throughout the year. Our premiere event is our craft fair, Mall in the Hall, held in early December. We also sell See’s Candy and assist in the spring scrubs sale.

Associate Auxiliary Members

Associate members do not provide services; they donate funds to the auxiliary and support our fundraising campaigns and events.

Donations

All monetary donations and in-kind gifts made to the BVCH Auxiliary are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Our 501(c)(3) Tax ID number is 33-0128660.

Become Involved

To become a volunteer member, you must return an application, have a background check done, meet with the board members, and be voted in at the general meeting. If you are interested in membership, visit the hospital lobby and ask the volunteer there for an application. We only accept permanent volunteers, not seasonal ones.
